Super-shoe speed, off road

The Rocket X Trail brings plated, propulsive road-racing feel onto the trail. It is aimed at fast running on smooth, non-technical ground, gravel and rolling singletrack, rather than steep, rocky terrain.

This one runs small: testers consistently sized up half, which then gave secure lockdown through heel, midfoot and toebox with about a thumb's width in front of the big toe. The forefoot platform is exceptionally wide, but the toebox shape itself is tapered and the toe guard makes it feel short. Thicker socks help. Some testers did fit true to size, so a try-on is worthwhile.

Best for: Trail racing, fast efforts on smooth terrain
Sizing: Runs small; most runners will want a half size up
Fit: Very wide forefoot platform but a tapered toebox; standard width only
