HOKA's most aggressive racer

The Cielo X1 is HOKA's maximal carbon racer, built for the runner who wants the most aggressive, propulsive shoe in the range. Its sweet spot is the half marathon to the marathon, and it doubles as a fast long-run shoe.

This one runs small: testers consistently sized up half, and it is described as running slightly short with a highly tapered toebox that breaks in somewhat. Heel lockdown is excellent for a racer and the asymmetrical lacing holds the midfoot without instep pressure. One outlet did call it true to size, so confirm with a try-on. The upper is harsh against bare skin, so wear socks.

Best for: Race day, half marathon to marathon, fast long runs
Sizing: Runs small; most runners will want a half size up
Fit: Narrow and tapered; standard width only
