HOKA Speedgoat 7 vs Speedgoat 6
Speedgoat 7 or Speedgoat 6? Here’s how they compare on feel, fit, brand specs and price, from the fitting team at The Run House.
The short answer
The Speedgoat 7 replaced the Speedgoat 6.
A livelier new foam, a woven upper, reshaped lugs, gaiter hooks and a bigger toe bumper.
What changed
- Foam: Supercritical EVA replaces CMEVA for the first time: softer and livelier.
- Shape: Much taller stack, a new gentle rocker and a wider base.
- Outsole: Redesigned Vibram Megagrip lugs.
- Heel: Much softer, more comfortable heel counter.
- Upper: New woven upper, gaiter hooks and a bigger toe bumper.
- On the run: Softer, bouncier, much more flexible up front and snugger.
- Measured: 5.6mm more foam under the heel and drop up from 4.9mm to 7.4mm. Weight about the same.

On the run
Speedgoat 7: The trail all-rounder. Plenty of cushion for downhills and a slightly livelier new foam. It stays stable on technical ground, and the Vibram Megagrip outsole sticks to almost anything.
Speedgoat 6: The stable, grippy trail cruiser. Supportive and stable on the trail, with grippy Vibram lugs and a rockered ride. The foam is firm, with little energy return.

Fit
Speedgoat 7. Runs about a half size short, so most runners go up a half. Narrower than most HOKA trail shoes, and the toebox can press the big toe on long descents. Wide available.
Speedgoat 6. Runs slightly short, so if you’re between sizes, go up a half. Reasonable toe room, but it’s low over the toes.
