The short answer
The Cloudmonster 3 replaced the Cloudmonster 2.
A snugger, narrower upper and a stiffer forefoot. The foam feels about the same.
What changed
- Foam: Same Helion foam and Speedboard, with updated CloudTec pods.
- Upper: Narrower toebox, a thicker tongue and new lacing with an elastic lace keeper.
- On the run: Stiffer up front and much snugger. Cushion and bounce about the same.
- Measured: 0.3 oz heavier. Heel stack and drop about the same.

On the run
Cloudmonster 3: Firm, snappy, unmistakably On. The firmest shoe here in lab tests, with a stiff plate and a rocker that give it a snappy feel at faster paces. It isn’t the shoe for soft recovery runs.
Cloudmonster 2: Firm, rockered and roomy. A firm, rockered, dynamic ride with On’s signature feel. It’s stable and excels on long runs, though the energy return is modest for the price.

Cloudmonster 3. Snug heel and midfoot. The toebox is narrower than the Cloudmonster 2’s, and it can run a touch long, so if you’re between sizes, try both. Standard width only.
Cloudmonster 2. Runs slightly long, so if you’re between sizes, try both. The toebox is roomy but low over the toes. Standard width only.
